Our restaurant manager, Daniela Metal, introduces Gruvelageret’s new autumn/winter menu. It's a celebration of elevated Arctic dining, with all the warmth and comfort we long for this season.
Our chefs have created a menu that brings together seasonal flavors and the comforting feeling of a meal made with care, inviting you to slow down and savor the moment.
Tucked away from town at the foot of Longyear Glacier, Gruvelageret is a cosy place to welcome the changing season, where food and storytelling bring us closer to the landscape around us, and to each other.
Our Trønderfæst with Ælgesæter Tramp & Trøkk was not only a jolly celebration, but also a transition from our Arctic spring/summer menu to our Arctic autumn/winter menu ✨
Who is not familiar, Trønderfæst means a celebration in the spirit of Trøndelag, the band’s home region in Norway. It is a big party with an incredibly high-energy vibes, crowd sing-alongs, and a touch of informal rural culture. But what is... Tramp & Trøkk? Think stomping feet and plenty of oomph: “tramp” is the stamping of feet, while “trøkk” brings the power and energy or... a party!
It was indeed a cheerful, inclusive evening, with a warm atmosphere that set the tone for the warmth we hope to share at Gruvelageret as the season of blue light, and then full darkness, unfolds. Through it all, the cozy, candlelit atmosphere and comforting food remain.
Thank you whole Gruvelageret team and Ælgesæter Tramp & Trøkk and to everyone who helped us welcome this change of season with such joy 💃🏻🕺🥰

For å forstå stedet vi lever i, må vi også være nysgjerrige på dem som var her før oss. Historien lever videre når generasjoner møtes, prater sammen og deler minner.

A few behind-the-scenes snapshots as we "collect" memories from locals who still live in town and once worked in Svalbard’s mining industry.
Sverdrupbyen — the place where you find us — holds a special place in the memories of many who have made, or still make, their lives on Svalbard. Gruvelageret is part of those memories too, through the building itself and the many purposes it has served over the years.
These are just a few snapshots from our conversations with Atle Brekken, Per Alme and Hedly (Egil Hedly Daleng). More bits and pieces from their stories are coming soon.
Vi har en sterk lidenskap for mat og vin, vi ønsker å servere et måltid med preg av Arktis og det nordiske, men som også viser mangfoldet i å bo like under Nordpolen. Vi samarbeider med lokale produsenter og er alltid på søken etter de beste produktene. I juni 2022 ble vi Miljøfyrtårnsertifisert og har siden jobbet kontinuerlig med å begrense matsvinn og velge de beste produkter fra bevisste leverandører. Fra produktet kjøpes inn, fraktes, tilberedes og havner på tallerkenen din ønsker vi å gi deg en god matopplevelse samtidig som at vi sitter igjen med minst mulig avfall og matsvinn.

We are cooperating with local producers and are continuously searching for the best products. We were Eco-Lightning certificated in 2022 and have since worked to limit food waste and choose the best product from environmental conscious suppliers. We are focused that from a product is bought, delivered, prepared, and served on your plate that we give you a good food experience, and leaves us with minimum food waste and garbage.
